4 DAYS IN MUNICH
Tuesday, May 16, 2017
My last destination (right after the spring break in Poreč) was Munich, the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria, on the banks of River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. I took FlixBus from Ljubljana to Munich (25€) and it took me 5 hours to get there.
MARIENPLATZ AND THE OLD TOWN
Marienplatz is the central square in the heart of Munich and holds the New Town Hall of Munich. From here you can explore many historic buildings, churches and landmarks; Mariensäule, Glockenspiel, Town Hall, Frauenkurche, Viktualienmarkt... If you like to shop there are plenty of different stores around. Time spent: Around 3 - 4 hours.
ENGLISCHER GARTEN
The largest park in the city with a cool surfing spot - Eisbach (yes, surfing spot!) This park is a great place to explore and relax. You can rent a paddle boat, visit one of it's traditional beer gardens or have a picnic on the lawn. If you like nude sunbathing, there is a famous area called Schönfeldwiese for catching the sun. There is also a massive beer garden with wooden Chinesischer Turm. Time spent: Whole day if you want to.
HOFGARTEN
Smaller then Englischer garten but way more charming.
STREET WITH WALL ART
I always look for cool artsy places and this street with graffiti wall was really good looking! Search for Tumbingerstraße to find this urban art and have some fun taking pictures.
RUHMESHALLE - Bavaria statue
The magnificent 18-meters tall bronze lady statue is a symbol and guardian of Bavaria. If you climb those stairs in front of the statue you will get a nice view over the Theresienwiesen fairground where major events (including Oktoberfest) are held.
OLYMPIAPARK
Site of the 1972 Olympics with a BMW Museum across the street. This park is well known for the unique tent architectue of the buildings and the Olympic Tower. A variety of events are held on the side throughout the year. There is a Sea-life center, an aquarium and zoo.
Love, K.
